Hamburgers and plumeria

We just needed to leave, if only for a few hours. I texted the docs at the hospital and there were no moms in labor, and otherwise things were calm. We climbed into the Exploder and bumbled down the dirt road to Jutiapa where we joined the traffic on CA-13 headed towards La Ceiba. We didn't really have anything we had to do, just needed to be away from Balfate for a moment. Traffic was slow as usual and the 24miles stretched the anticipated 2 hours to travel, but we weren't in a hurry and took amazement in commenting on all the new construction along the route. We stopped at Motomundo to buy oil and oil filter for the Yamaha, and then I requested to go to WalMart! Something, I had not thought I'd ever do in my life. But I wanted to look for a meat thermometer and figured WalMart to be a likely source. Of course, about an hour later, meat thermometer obtained, we were leaving WalMart a good $150 poorer. When shopping without purpose and hungry, I guess we shouldn't be surprised. We additionally stopped for hamburgers before leaving the city and heading back home. We are thankful for the quick little day trip, for the proximity to a larger city, and for the hamburgers! Plus we still had time on getting back home for our typical Saturday chores and Jake even got the oil changed on the Yamaha!

Sunrise on the plumeria
Sunrise on the plumeria

I've been reminded a couple of times this week of the need to slow down. Stop, take a drive, say an extra prayer (always!), and catching this plumeria reaching down over the wall beside our house was a sweet call from Jesus as one of those reminders to me. In the back of my mind I had thought that, one day, when we are more settled, a plumeria plant would be nice. So to come back from my run one morning and to catch God's sunshine dancing on the plumeria, first I did a double-take, then of course, I took a picture. Maybe I'll get a canvas of this and put it on our wall, a reminder to pay attention to those small blessings and moments, like hamburgers and plumeria.

Much love.

Knocked down with a sickness

Well despite having avoided several waves of illness that has passed through the hospital since we got here, I finally had my turn at being sick. Normally I associate head colds with the winter time b
