The inspectors are coming! The inspectors are coming! It echoed throughout the hospital verging on panic as suddenly hallways and shelves needed a dramatic and immediate cleaning! It had been over a year since Loma de Luz had first been notified of an impending inspection. March 2025 I believe, which was then pushed back to May 2025 which also came and went with nary a hair of an inspector to write home about. And then it was almost forgotten, until they were on our doorstep.

Jake and I both didn't really see the big deal, as inspections are common. We've experienced them often working in the US and recognize they are necessary to assure safety regulations are being met, and the care is up to national standard. For everyone else, this was the hospital's first inspection since it had opened in 2003, so the pressure was on. Dr. Gerardo, played a huge role in taking the inspectors around on a tour and answering their questions. He confessed to me he was nervous; that he didn't want them to close our ORs. I reassured him, but it wasn't really necessary. The inspectors of course had their list of improvements and requirements that we will have to change to meet their standard; but even with that they recognized the service that was being provided. They noted difference everyone at Loma de Luz was making, and the patients we were impacting and helping. They even commented that they were impressed with Loma de Luz. Amen!

Jake has now already been in multiple meetings about how to go about making the necessary remodels and changes!

Much Love.

Dr. Gerardo ready to watch Argentina take on Cabo Verde! Even brought the asado to share! Yum!
