Brewing tea

Believe it or not, I'm wearing a sweatshirt right now. It is a chilly 70 degrees outside, and inside, thanks to our open-air home. We'd heard the rainy season brought cooler temps, but sitting here with long sleeves and long pants, candle lit, Jake brewing us some tea... it's almost cozy. (okay, it's actually emergen-c he's brewing some water for, but the tea sounded cozier!)
Jake and I are constantly weighing the paradox that the rainy season brings. Cooler temps, see above comment on cozy, is a definite benefit. But with that comes high humidity, see our last post about mold here and I'll leave it at that. At the same time, mold, we can at least attempt to control that. The unpaved roads that wind along the coast to arrive at the hospital... we can't control those. The daily rain turns the roads to mud, and the lack of adequate drainage brings the rainfall rushing down the mountain in torrents causing flash floods and washing out bridges. Patients are not able to get to the hospital. The hallways and lobby waiting areas are almost deserted.
And we are not even a month into rainy season yet! It's gonna be a crazy few months! For all those contemplating visiting in the future. November to February has their own set of pros and cons to consider. You won't melt, but make sure you get flexible flights as you may just get stuck here until a makeshift bridge can be finagled.

Please pray for our community here in Balfate, Colon, Honduras. For stability of the roads and bridges, and for safety of those traveling.
Much Love.
