Sterilization break
God took liberties with his sunset the other evening.
We are heading to a friend's wedding this weekend, and in preparation I had arranged for General Surgery coverage for myself. I filled up the surgery schedule for our friend Dr. Mark and had planned to finally catch up on administrative duties. But as is typical when you are attempting to tie up loose ends before leaving, it seems the rope just unravels faster. I'm finding I have to keep reminding myself that the rope won't actually unravel without us here.
Today two tibia fractures were added to the list, plus an extra case for Dr. Mark. So I helped Mark get started and then transitioned to the first tibia. And now I am sitting outside the OR fielding consults, and questions while intermittently trying to get another sentence written down on this post. You see, we only have one set of tools to do a tibia fracture. So while everything is being sterilized, Dr. Mark moves on to his next case and I discuss with Nelly how to care for a gunshot wound and with Dr. Gerardo possible approaches to a 12 year old kid who unfortunately had a finger twisted off getting it caught in a washer.
We are both looking forward to the weekend. Getting to celebrate life with our friends, but also being able to not be needed will be a welcome moment for our introverted selves. Sometimes those moments come as sunsets. Other times a friend's wedding! In the meantime, I get to help another patient!
Much Love.
