Upon arrival I was told that there was a visiting certified prosthetist that I would be introduced to and train under. My first day helping Geoff (the prosthetist) was a great day. A patient had come in with the hope that he could finally get his first below the knee prosthesis. This older gentleman had done many trips in search of help, but was turned down everywhere he went. He was told he was too heavy for a prosthetic.
Loma de Luz was his last chance to get a prosthesis that would allow him to walk again… and God had a plan.
We searched the lab looking for extra parts, and during the search we came across a single part that had a max weight rating fitting the patient! We were able to use it and get him his first prosthesis by God’s grace and power! The smile on this man’s face when he started walking is unforgettable. It was honestly convicting to see how joyful this man was even in all of his trials, and made me realize there is much in my life that I could be more joyful about. It reminded me that being joyful is a choice, not a feeling
It is amazing how our Lord always provides exactly what is needed. In this situation the need that God supplied turned out how we wanted it to, but it is important to remember that prayers are not always answered in the ways we would like them to be answered. At the end of the day, our Lord and savior knows what we need and he loves us so much that if we come before him in humility and ask we will receive help from him. This experience along with many others continues to strengthen my faith and my love for my Creator and Savior!
